Sony Craps It's Pants In Public
Microsoft Must Be Doing Something Right…
Like many of you, I read the daily videogame news and blogs. An interesting trend - for the 3rd time in the weeks following the 2005 E3 Electronic Gaming Expo, Ken Kutaragi, President of Sony Computer Entertainment has made derogatory comments towards the Xbox 360 on par with any mindless fanboy.
First the father of the PlayStation has claimed that the Xbox 360 is simply an extension of Xbox 1 – going on to insinuate that it should be called Xbox 1.5 not 360. He claims the new hardware will “increase the machine's capabilities as an all-purpose computer, but it won't change the type of entertainment.” Huh? Yeah, we need a .5 lux camera mounted on our television sets to play 15 year old Sega classics – that will change entertainment. Someone give me a power glove please!
Then Kutaragi tried to convince us that Xbox 360 is really going after the Playstation 2 not PS3 since the PlayStation 3 is still in development and it will launch after the Xbox 360. Huh? This is the same type of lame (seriously lame) fan boy rhetoric posted by the Sony Kool-aid drinkers on Internet forums.
Now he is trying to make the pathetic point that – get this – by being backwards compatible and by not being 100% backwards compatible at launch, the Xbox 360 is killing off the current Xbox 1. Huh? This simply strikes me as desperation. This is the best you can do?
Hey, do you hear that? That’s the sound of Sony soiling itself in the face of worthy competition.
Combine these incidents along with the fact that Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Fame) has openly expressed doubts that Sony’s Playstation 3 will live up to the hype.
AND… Steve Jobs turned down a proposition to use the PS3 cell processor stating that he was disappointed with the Cell design, which he believes will be even less effective than the PowerPC.
Xbox live running on a Microsoft network backbone – reason enough for Sony to worry.
Each political season I get annoyed by all of the PR campaigns to smear the other guy. I always say, ‘stop blabbering to me about how bad the other guy is – why should I vote you YOU?’.
Even though I thought the Sony PS3 E3 press conference was loaded with B.S., I was still impressed with the company's marketing prowess. But this follow-up behavior is just weak. I hope this is not all we can expect from Sony for the next year. Ask any guy who has dumped a psycho girfriend - desperation is a total turn-off.
