PS2 Game Reviews!

Righty-O kids, here is the lowdown on some recent PS2 titles:

We Heart Katamari - I thought the first one was kind of clever. I always love quirky games that try to be original in the sequel driven game universe. But here we have a… sequel! The graphics look just as craptastic as before and the music is still trying waaaayy too hard to be hip. I was bored with the first one 10 minutes in. This is a continuation of that suck-fest.

Soul Caliber III – Okay now here is what I expect to see as far as PS2 graphics in late 2005. This is a beautiful game that is also fun as ever. Still playing this one.

Shadow of the Colossus – Beautiful game. Once again we are reminded why Katamari sucks ass in the graphics department. There is no excuse for sloppy graphics. The game play is awesome. Epic boss battles that take forever to complete and wear you out mentally and physically. I LOVE this one.

Jak-X – This is a pretty generic cart racer. Collect power-ups and shoot stuff at other carts. Okay, I guess. I still prefer Mario Kart.

IGN Live!

On October 23rd I took my bad self on down to the Anaheim Convention Center to check out the IGN Live! event. It was later in the afternoon on the last day so I wasn’t surprised that there weren’t massive crowds to navigate through. Here are some of the highlights:

- XBox 360 playable games! First, Call of Duty Multiplayer on a big HD screen with a nice loud home theater unit. I got to sit in a comfortable black leather easy chair and come in 2nd place. By far this was the best Xbox 360 game shown. Then I checked out Need For Speed Most Wanted 360 which crashed a few times. Looked nice though. Finally, Peter Jackson’s King Kong! Got to compare Kong on Xbox and Xbox 360. Both are fun and look good. And finally they had a demo (which I just watched others play) of Tony Hawk American Wasteland. This looked exactly the same as the Xbox 1 version except you could maybe see further down the street. Great frame rate but not really distinguishable from the Xbox title.

- Miscellaneous hot chicks promoting stuff no one cares about. What would a nerd convention be without the babes???

- Got to meet Tommy T. from G4 TV’s Judgment Day. I complimented him on having the balls to give We Heart Katamai the weak score it deserves! He was nice and much more down to earth than I expected.

- Skateboard ramps with tricksters showing off.

- U.S. Army Tank, wall climbing and goofy light gun exhibits.

- Professional wresting in the back. This was very popular.

- A bunch of old arcade machines… not plugged in.

- Pokemon tournaments on special Poke’tables.

- 8-Bit musicians playing kick-ass-metal versions of your favorite Mario & Co. hits. I can’t believe that tour got canceled!
