vgPocket and vgPocket mini with LCD Screen!

All-In-One Goes Hi-Tech - LCD Screen Included!

We’ve all see our share of crappy One Million in One NES rip-off tv games packed into the shell of an old console controller. I have to admit, I love these! The cheap plastic, the unstable modified roms, the short lifespan… Aaaahhhh so sweet! So you can imagine my excitement as I was strolling through Best Buy this afternoon and spotted 2 of these all-in-one gems sandwiched between various Xbox1 accessories. You figure it’s gotta be pretty good to be distributed by good ole Best Buy right?

Exhibits 1 and 2: VG1500 and VG2000 from the fine folks at Performance Designed Products of China. Cleverly housed in an mp3 player and gameboy micro case mock up respectively, these little guys have the distinction of having their own small color LCD screens! The VG1500 mp3 farce has a 1.5 inch screen while the VG2000 has a 2 inch screen. And they are not bad at all!

At $30.00 each they are a bit steep and probably not worth it to anyone other than a collector. If you are considering giving this to your child instead of a real gameboy just spend the extra sixty.

I have to give the manufacture credit though for including many extras you would never get with a competing product. Each unit ships with 3 AAA batteries, a mono AV out cable, a strap and a surprisingly good instruction book for the games!

The manufacturers website is featured prominently on the back of each unit - too bad the site is under construction!

The games – I was expecting the 50 game unit to have the same games as the 30 game unit with 20 more random crappy games thrown in. I was surprised to find that although there are some duplicates, you really do get mostly exclusive crappy games on each unit. And by crappy I’m talking bird crap! You've got rip-off versions of everything from Air-Sea Battle and Columns to Hexic just as you would expect. No bad, just nowhere near worth $30.00.

Each unit has not only a headphone jack, but also a TV out jack. I hooked this up easily and the quality is on par with any of the other TV/Game products on the market.

So, before I pack these guys back up, put them in the garage and kiss my $60.00 goodbye forever I'm going to try to talk myself into not feeling like such a sucker when I could have picked up Xbox 360 College Hoops instead. The do have a combined screen size of 3.5 inches right? Now I'm reaching...
